Individual Coaching in the Art of Writing a Life/Loss Narrative (Memoir)
Involves assistance with all aspects of the craft of writing a life or loss narrative (memoir):
- Clarifying the purpose, form and style of writing
- Structuring the narrative in a coherent beginning, middle and end
- Suggesting writing techniques to make the manuscript more engaging to read
- Editing each draft with regard to spelling, punctuation, grammar and paragraphing
- Addressing the ethical dimensions of the writing
- Online self-publishing
This can be held by Skype or in person at my home in Colac, or at alternative location such as your home or a local café or library. Prior to this session I will read a sample of your writing and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the writing and whether you want to continue with the coaching.
Ongoing coaching sessions (60 minutes, $80).
These can be arranged every fortnight or monthly and can be held in person, via phone or Skype. Prior to each session, I will read a draft of your writing and edit and make comments on the draft. An additional cost of $40 per hour is required if you prefer me to re-write the draft.
Individual coaching provided for the following emergent authors and their books:
1. The Nature of Survival: One man’s story of his love of the land, the battles in his mind and the challenges in his life by Doug Lang
A book that is part memoir, part self-help that tells the parallel story of how Doug not only learned to restore his family farm to its natural state but also learned how to survive the darkness and despair of depression, addiction and the death of his daughter from brain cancer.
2. I Will Never Be Whole Again by Donna-Marie Morgan
A book of heartfelt poems that express Donna's grief at the tragic loss of her daughter and her deep love and bond for her daughter.
3.Yours, Mine, Ours: Stories of child loss for everyone by Judith Elizabeth Dowling
A book of short stories on the devastating experience of child loss, drawn from a blend of Judith's own experiences as a bereaved parent and the stories of other bereaved parents Judith has listened to over the years as a volunteer with The Compassionate Friends - Victoria. These stories are not simply for those who know the loss of a child, either recently or years ago, they are also for the general public who understandably so often find child loss a difficult subject.
